D.I.Y. De-cat downpipe?
Anyone know if there are any drawbacks to de-cating the original dwnpipe? Surely its just a case of taking the cat out and a little welding up here and there or is there a lot more to it than that?
For all the fuss and trouble whats the point when you can pick them up for 100 quid?? plus you will have a nightmare time trying to get the angle and bend 100% correct, then come MOT time you are back to square 1
let us know how you get on if you do try it

The OE downpipe flange/port restricts the wastegate outlet-so to get near the benefit of the aftermarket ones you would have to open the flange to the turbo/wastegate poening size and then fabricate the pipe to an open neck(make it bigger)-youre then left with the cat to remove-once removed, the internals of the pipe wouldnt be a smooth tapered shape.
As said above, the aggro of doing all this if far to much compared to just buying and fitting a s.hand one-which will be far better than a gutted OE one.

Cheers for the feedback guys. Like TopBanana says, £100 where from? Everytime they come up for sale they're £130ish and get snapped up very quickly! Sounds like it's better to wait (or buy a new one) then have a go with the OM which will be spare. If I do have a go I'll let you know Andy. Oh, and MOT time isn't a problem for me.

From: Leeds - It was 562.4bhp@28psi on Optimax, How much closer to 600 with race fuel and a bigger turbo?
can just cut it out and replace with pipe..
you could also open out the wastegate side like I did with a HKS one
