Question Gearbox help pls

Have been to look at second hand 97 scoob this morning for a friend whos after one,Is it a common thing for second gear to be stiff to engage it seems like you have to change into 2nd slow or its stiff to get in you seem to have to feel the gear in.
No crunches etc: BUT the clutch does judder on it and i noticed theres only a bit in the top of the cluch pedal..Its either on or off..
Asked the trader whos selling it and he reckons its the original clutch at 59000mls????????
Otherwise the cars mint and he will buy it just a bit unsure about the second gear and clutch
Thanks Guys

Sounds like it just a needs a new clutch. Would make it harder to get into gear, and second is normally the hardest to get into

About four or five hours labour. You can also pull the engine out which is supposed to be quicker, but have never done it like that before.

There isn't 1. Either lift the block out or drop the box. Welcome to AWD!!!

Simon is so right. There is NO short cut. Some are more athletic at remove/fit/replace but it is a pig of a job on your own in a single car garage!

Pay someone, you won't regret it.....
