need some info on gearboxes if any one can help,a mates gear box has given up in his uk impreza turbo can he fit a box out of a wrx or any other import in his car, it is 1997 model.

Ratio's are different, and so the whole drivetrain would need to be changed, i.e. all the diff's etc, otherwise the ratio's between the diffs and gearbox would be unmatched, and one or the other would go bang fairly quickly!!

 

not strictly true, the easiest way would be to make sure the front diff in the replacemnt 'box is the same as the old one (or you could swop old into new)............other than that the boxes will 'mix & match' dependant on what you are hoping to achieve??

if you are simply after a replacement then you are best looking for the exact box to match the old one!!
