Unhappy Knock with ECUTek Map (after two years & no probs)

Hi,

My MY01 WRX was remapped by ScoobySport about 20 month ago. Everything has run just brilliantly until recently. I had noticed an occasional pop and bang and have since noticed the knock death rattle at high rpm under load.

The only thing of note is that she was serviced about 4K miles ago. The problems have only occured since then, but i can't say i noticed any problem immediately afterward.

Anything the garage could have to cause this ?

Anyone know if any of the current ECUTek remappers might have a look at this for me since i can't go back to Pete

Cheers .. Andy

From: Leeds - It was 562.4bhp@28psi on Optimax, How much closer to 600 with race fuel and a bigger turbo?

Pat offered to 'warrantee' (if thats the correct word) remaps done via scoobysport (as he did them)

If the car did run 20 month without a problem, I don't think it's due to the mapping. There has to be some other problem with the car. MAF-sensor?

Mark.

Mark ... i have to agree. I'd have thought that any problems would have appeared sooner. And as it appeared a few weeks after a service .... it has to be suspect.

but what could they have done ? How could they have damage a MAF sensor... is there any way of telling it's damaged ? if it could be airflow.. what about a filter ? i think i might open up the air box and make sure my ITG's still in there and clean...

the sound of knock ! Sounds a bit like a distant machine gun .... which isn't that dissimilar to what's actually being done to the top of the pistons ... yuk

is it normal to hear slight knocking for a couple of seconds when the car is just ticking over when you first start it up? i hear a little knocking then it disappears then comes back for like 2 seconds then gone again. can happen a few times but when you set off everything is fine. normal?

Leonski, depending on the MY, that knock/rattle is piston slap, tappets or injectors.....from your description, doesn't sound like too much to worry about.
