Oil Temps
I am currently running a defi oil temp gauge, the sensor is positioned in the top of the block. I am using Motul 300V Competition 15w/50.
I'm quite concerned as my oil temps have been hitting 120 (DegC) when driving hard. Even when cruising it is running around 100. Not sure wheather the gauge is faulty? or the temps are genuine? I read a thread by JohnFelstead (Think it was JF ) in which he said 120 is within the operating temperature for this oil.
Can anyone tell me if this is normal, or should I fit an oil cooler? Also is there any way of checking the calibration of the gauge?
Thanks in advance for any advice

With regards to calibration you could remove sensor and place tip in 'boiling' water (Still connected) - this will test the accuracy @ 100DegC 212DegF

It is "normal" for an engine with no oil cooler to run this hot I would say. The oil you use is about the best you could use and I would agree that it will be able to withstand 120°C oil temp. But that doesnt mean that an oil cooler isnt a good idea anyway, especially if you plan to tune the car...
