Not happy, maojorly down on power...........
I have an MY97 UK Turbo running:
VF34 Turbo
Hybrid FMIC
550cc Injectors
Apexi Power FC mapped by Andy F
Greddy Profec e-01 boost controller at 1.4bar
Walbro fuel pump
FSE Fuel pressure Reg
2.5" Full decat
D R Motorsport 'GT Spec II' headers
Forge VTA dumpvalve
K&N Induction Kit
I took it to the RR day today at Powerstation and got a pathetic 264bhp Surely my spec should be good for 330-340bhp?????
It was not behaving properly on the rollers atall, the power was coming on in sort of 'waves', you could hear it in the exhaust note
I'm going to bypass my Greddy boost controller tomorrow and re-fit my dawes, but I think my turbo is just fecked As I posted before, when everything was fitted I was getting a major spool-up problem. I later discovered my headers were leaking so I replaced them with some nice D R motorsport 'GT Spec II' headers, which are fantastic quality and improved the spooling problem a bit, but it was still laggy. Today's power run has proved there is something very wrong.
I'm gutted. I've decided the VF34 is coming off and I'm going to get a TD05/06 20g hybrid (and obviously get the map tweaked for it).
It's so frustrating
Am I barking up the wrong tree thinking it's the turbo at fault??

Edited the first post because I mis-typed the power figure, it was actually an even more pathetic 264bhp
A few other cars were down on power today, Fuzz got 360 something, last time at Powerstation he got 386.
Also Fangoria got just 325bhp, although his car has been remapped for Optimax since his 400bhp+ on race-fuel.

That's the point, I wasn't 100% happy with it, and the dyno run has confirmed my feelings that it's not producing the power it should be.
The last time my car was on the rollers at Powerstation I got 235bhp with just a full decat. As you can see from my first post my spec has changed massively since then yet I've only gained around 30bhp. Something is obviously very wrong.

I would estimate my car to be around 330-340bhp. Is that a fair estimate?
I may go along to the rolling road day this saturday at powerstation, but their rollers are notoriously low reading

You posted the above last week. Has it slowed down since then ? Did you notice what the boost was doing on the rollers ? and is it still surging up and down since then ?
Was the VF34 checked over when you changed the headers ? Before fitting a bigger turbo it may be worth trying the original TD04 to ensure that it will spool up at low RPM as it should, just in case there is another issue from a previous life such as cam timing a tooth out ?

It's puzzling??????
It boosted to 1.38 bar on the rollers, which is close to th 1.42 I get on the road. I dont feel any of the surging on the road either.
I didn't get the VF34 checked over, but I agree I probably should have. I was convinced the headers were causing the spool-up issue though because they were leaking, hence the reason I didn't bother to check the VF34 over.
I could try the TD04 as you suggest, but would it spool up with these headers, seeing as it's such a small turbo???
