Thumbs up New turbo fitted Noisy?

Just fitted my new TD05/06 2o g turbo and i'm getting a whine at around 2800 rpm just when the turbo starts to spool which doesn't go untill you release the throttle.

I have used the origional downpipe and up pipe gaskets would a leaking gasket make this noise or is there a problem with the bearins inside the turbo itself?

Cheers

George

Shouldnt be ANY whining noise at all - I have none on the 20g and you wouldnt get a whine from leaking gaskets.... I should know as I've had all sorts of gasket failure problems (associated with poor quality products Like Gruppe S ) and they are very distinctive - you would know if you had leaking gaskets!!

Had a whining sound on a VF22.....within 50 miles the Bearing had failed - result - new bearing and rebuild at a cost of £xxx

I would get a second opinion if I were you - if your in the SWest I can give it a test drive and tell you!!!!

Thumbs down

Drove it about 10 miles, not getting any better so I think there is a bearing problem, although it should have been fully reconditioned. This is the first time it has been on a car.

Fangoria, thanks for your help mate, I think it needs to be returned to the supplier.

ps I was the one who bought your 2" H+S up-pipe at the rolling road last year

I have recently done a turbo swap and it whined. the turbo lasted 1 mile!!
could hear it spooling up then pop.took the intake pipe off and the fins were bent and metal everywhere!! serves me right for buying a 2nd hand turbo and not having it serviced.£300 lost

Hmmm - yes I ended up having to ermmmmm repurchase a new H&S up-pipe.. but this one is slip jointed so should be a little better....thats the last time I sell up prior to making sure everythings ok as the original H&S I had worked fine.......

Do you remember the gasket blowing on that day at PE!!! - I was not best chuffed - sounded like a tractor and only got 401bhp as a result (yeah, I know. excuses, excuses, but a valid one)........

Gruppe S up-pipe for sale if anyone wants it - say £10!

Can't it be a simple boost surge problem ?
Does it stops after 4000/4500RPM or does it continue ?

Wink

I don't think it can be that because it is unmapped and only running .5 bar actuator is connected direct to compressor cover outlet so it cannot boost. It is noisy at even that low pressure.

Will be taking it off the car again Thursday night to inspect.

Fangoria,

Sounded like a tractor but still made 419, pretty good I thought.
