ecutek'd classic imrezas
i am unsure if my second hand MY99 impreza turbo has been ecutekd or not. when i connect the 2 relevant plugs under the drivers dash to check error codes, the CEL light just stays on (along with oil pressure...etc.). it does not blink or go off after a while. it turns off only when i start the engine. is this a sign of an ecutekd classic? can someone with an ecutekd clasic check 4 me please. this will probably confirmed if it has been ecutekd or if the person i bought it from was just talking $hit.

Only way to tell is plug a PC in that has Ecutek on it & it will show if the car has been remapped, the wires under the dash are for a checking procedure, not to tell if the car's been mapped at all.
Ask the person where you got the car from who mapped it & give them a call; usually all files are labelled & stored safely. I know many mappers keep relevant details so it won't be too difficut to find out.

The ecutek remap shouldnt affect anything like this as it doesnt physically change any hardware just the parameters within the original ecu map itself. And is transparent unless you compare individual parameters agaisnt the factory settings.
book it in for a check over at your local friendly subaru specialist that has a select monitor or equivelant, and get them to check it out, as well as checking the rest of the car.

You could put a boost gauge on which will tell you if the boost has been upped. If it has then have a look inside the ECU...if theres no aftermarket chips or a manual boost controller under the bonnet then I would assume it has been tek'd
As mentioned above it is worth contacting the mapper so you know how its been mapped. Obviously if the mapper confirms that the car was mapped, you will still need to check either by checking boost or as suggested above...the mapped ECU could have been removed before sale.

If the ECU has been EcuTeKed, the car's previous owner should be able to tell you who did it, and once you know who's responsible you can contact them to find out the exact nature of the map that was put on. If the seller can't tell you who did it, you can probably draw your own conclusions.

thanks guys will give the old owner a call (dont really want to - he is really sour he had to sell the car) but i am sure that the CEL light just stays on when the black connectors are connected. no one in kenya has a select monitor, but even the local subaru tuner/guru couldnt get it to display error codes, the CEL light just remains on along with all other lights on the dash until the car is actually started. very strange.

ok guys i got a boost gauge - and the car boosts as follows (in bar);
idle : -0.5
1st gear : 0.7
2nd/3rd :0.9
4th/5th :0.95-1.0
peak values obv.
so with the pictures of my ecu in mind - has the car been ecutekd or not?
motec is also popular here in kenya (for rally cars) could mine have been motec'd?
oh yeah all the above boost figures are running on kenyan 'super' fuel : 93 octane leaded!

May help a little - sorry its in PSI not Bar and I've deleted my conversion prog.
Before ECUTEK my car ran at about 14 PSI ish max. (think 1 bar)
After ECUTEK it gets to about 16.5 PSI ish max. (think 1.2)
Also as its MY99 I don't think it will have any daughter boards attached to it - mine doesn't and its MY00.
