Depends on your power target ?
If it's 350bhp then you could go for that VF but a TD05 would do a better job and cheaper !
Up to 420bhp then TD05/06-20G
500+ bhp then it needs to be a Garrett job really.

I think the iON P450 would be ideal for that output on a 2.5. Watch John Banks progress with this in the near future.
For 500+ targets I wouldn't keep the hybrid Subaru turbine housing which the P450 uses, the garrett internals would be similar though.

I'm going the 2.5 route as well, but taking it in stages to spread cost.
First priority is not to break the gearbox on my UK00 Classic and finances force me to stick with my big TMIC with spray. I also want to fit stock headers back on (ported - thanks Floyd ) keep my 2.5in Scoobysport decat exhaust, and STi panel filter induction. 550 injectors. Fuel pump. EcuTek3 remap. Prolly go for an AP clutch as mine judders.
I would be very happy with 350/350-ish torque/bhp, with good power from 2,500rpm. I think the gearbox will take that if I'm careful.
TD05 of some sort?
Thanks,
Richard.

In my experience the UK gearbox 3rd gear struggles to live with anything over 330lb-ft
A TD05FE should meet your requirements but it may need the wastegate porting pretty much to the limit to avoid boost creep. I estimate that you would only need to run approx 1 bar boost to make the numbers, it would have excellent response, even off boost the 2.5 feels lively

Andy, can you suggest torque limits for the other 4 gears?
Mark, I don't understand all the hype over the Disco Spud; Garrett reckon its only good for 320hp (catalogue).

Does anybody know the iON website location ?

If you read the NASIOC its all that's talked about ??! I agree its expensive and if a cheaper alternative was available I'd use that

Isn't the problem with the 5-speed box not 3rd gear as such, but because this is the gear that gets most grief when going for it?
On track days, I'm in 3rd most of the time, with a quick spurt of 4th on the straights and 2nd for the odd tight hairpin. Otherwise it's 3rd all the way.
Would like to know the answer to Floyd's question - can you uprate 3rd gear?
And where is the best place to get the turbo for me? Andy, can you supply?
Richard.

I've broken a 2nd and 3rd gear, plus had a 4th gear fail (which isn't quite the same ). First to 3rd are the likely candidates for failure on the 5MT. You need to budget for a stronger box too - a friend just fitted a 1400km WRX 5MT to his classic, and stripped 2nd 1000km's later on track; he's running a td05 at only 1.15 bar.
It's now his 5th box in the last 2 years - pay the money for a 6MT now and be done with it, mines still holding up fine.

Tearing round the roads of Monaco mapping a powerful scooby is the sort of work you don't mind getting up for in the morning

Thomas seems to enjoy his "new" scooby you remapped. He speaks just as if he was comming back from the wonderful world of Disneyland.
So be ready for 3 or 4 more...in Paris this time

That is a really good question!
I think I will be mailing everyone as well.
We should start a 2.5 engine co-operative to immediately warn each other of what not to do.
Peccy, I take it you are you are putting yours in the R?
Im thinking of selling the R and buying a 6speed bugeye.
One question though,
Who is floyd?, I want to take my OBX headers off for the next and get my stardards ported for this one.

The Ion P450 would be a good choice for higher power applications. I have used this turbo with minor modifications to great success, 585bhp from 2.0 litres. John Banks is about to prove the same turbo at 2.5 litres.
