Question Classic/Bugeye Back Box Fitment

I gather a bugeye (01-04) back box will fit a 99/00 classic with minor change to hangers. Is this correct and is it the rear hanger that needs changing?

This was covered in a previous thread, but the answer is yes it will fit, however, the bracket on the underaxle pipe (just in front of the box) needs to be cut off as close to the welds as possible, and then rebent slightly to weld back on in the appropriate position to fit the classic hanger position, the rear brackets (on the box) are O.K. To do the job properly, you will also need a spacer flange, aprox. 10mm thick to fit between the middle, and rear system, to move the rear system back by that amount. If you don't, there is possibility of the rear antiroll bar hitting the front of the longer rear box on full bump. On mine, I had to ovalise the holes in the flange slightly to get the tailpipes to sit absolutely level..but thats me being pedantic !
If you do swap, it has the advantage of better material (high grade stainless) on the outer skin of the box, therefore will last much longer, and the backpressure and noise are the same as the original.

Mine did not require the 10mm spacer (97MY) Chaddys is 00MY

Cheers
