Question Differences between 3 port and 2 port solenoid?

Just tried a 3 port on my car (full-decat, Tek3) and found that it was all over the place. Boost gauge was reading 1.5bar!

Should their be any difference or was it just fitted incorrectly?

The differnece is huge, if a car was mapped with a two port in place and then you changed it afterwards the wastegate control solenoid duty values in the ecu will be far too high as you have seen, its not a diy upgrade, only for use to improve boost control when mapping. Put your two port back on, what were you hoping to gain ?

Bob (top one!), I spoke to my boy this afternoon and he gave the exactly the same answer Mr Rawle has just given you.

Nothing wrong with my fitting thank you

Bob: That would explain it then. Was buying the 3 port before having the car mapped...didn't realise it would go bonkers.

POC: Had total confidence in your fitting

Sorry to hijack!!

I have a 95 WRX wagon (import) and recently needed to change the boost solenoid. They solenoid that was already in the car was a 3 port, is this standard? (I am guessing not!). Does this mean my car has been messed around with in the land of the rising sun??

Early cars up to/incl MY96 have a three port as standard fit.
