I bought the parts to do it but haven't got around to it yet..
£66 including the silicone sealant.. I'd expect an hours labour maybe two with removing everything and a test drive..
Probably £100 to £150 depending on dealer, guessing..
Often they both go at a similar time though.. doh..

just had my drivers side one done on m97 at the local scooby dealer it was 86£ all in
takes less than an hour to do apparently! garage hours are 60£ an hour, and the part is only 14£, both are leaking on mine but one is only just seeping out the other was pissing on the manifold so just had that one done lol
hope its of any help

for this time then GGR is not cheaper than the dealer as that little lot plus the sealant was £66 for drivers side.
Sounds like just the gasket at £86 including fitting.. the other bits really need changing to do a proper job.. but £86-£14 = £72 labour + £66 = £138 which I believe is within my original £100 to £150 estimate
Mine have been leaking for a while, the drivers side leaks onto the headers so you have to watch it doesn't build up as it could ignite.
I think a little weaping is fine but obviously none is better, my oil level drops a small amount better services and the passenger side has started to make a small drip on the drive.. job for the warmer weather along with the cambelt.

where do these half moons install to?
I did my turbo side, changed the main outer gasket, spark plug gaskets and new washers on the nuts.
looked for more seals but couldnt see any.
I also attempted the other side, however after one bolt snapped and the other very bottom bolt towards the passenger seat, rounded, i gave in.

Magnet,
The covers have the half moons slotted into the edges of them I believe they cover where the end of the cams are..
You might well find just replacing the gasket will surfice but once disturbed all the other bits might start to leak.

i removed the cover and thoroughly cleaned it, the entire outer gasket covers the cams.
I stripped the cover completely, there were no half moons in there.
anyone got a pic.

Sorry mind lapse.. They are in the head.. with the head stripped the surface dips in to allow the cam end to be got at although not sure why.. with the half moons in the lip where the cover mates up to is then a continuous level lip...
If I spot a picture I'll post it.. I might have a picture on a bike engine..

Thanks guys! Did not want to start a debate! As long as I can get is done for around the prices mentioned above, by a dealer, then I am happy - I thought my engine was goosed at first!

Didn't realise this had become a debate
Just down to the policy of the garage/person changing it..
If you didn't change the halfmoons and it is not leaking the great.. they just sometime (so I am told) crack so it is good procedure to replace with gasket.
When ever I do something on the car I try and replace everything consumable in the area so I don't have to revisit again in the not to distant future. Perhaps the half moons etc is unneccassary.

Changed the drivers-side gasket a few months back - fairly straightforward DIY job. Found out that most of the oil appeared to be leaking from one of the bolt gaskets.
Regarding the half moons - these are solid black plastic bits which fit into the head at the fee end of the cam. I got these parts along with the gasket set, but I couldn't remove the ones already installed!!
I decided to not change the half moons because the old ones were stuck fast, appeared to be well sealed, and showed no signs of cracking. However, I have read of cases where these fell out as the rocker cover was removed......
