Default Downpipe Q

I am fitting my decat downpipe next week-end and want a few spare bolts as a back up. Do I have to buy these bolts from a main dealer and should I also get a new gasket? My00.

Thanks.

Get a new gasket for sure both ends as you don't know what condition the old ones are in. If you spray plenty of plus gas/wd40 or similar over the bolts a couple of times before removal leaving to soak in for at least a few hours at a time they should come of ok, not whilst turbo is really hot though, LOL!
I have been ok with the two downpipes I have fitted.
The bolts should be ok as you can replace these with standard (M10 I think) items, the studs will be the pain in the **** if they shear as you will have to remove the old one somehow (molegrips, easyout, drill it etc) and retap the thread and fit a new one.And they are M10 fine's I think can't remember the pitch 0.8 or 1mm
I'm sure someone knows of the top of there head so you could get some from a local fasteners/engineering holesalers, or just get couple from subaru just incase
But hopefully you will not need to get into that as they will come of first time :-)

The bolts are M10 with a FINE pitch thread which is 1.25 (FINE) NOT 1.0 (EXTRA FINE)

any quality fastener/bolt store will have then of be able to get them for you.

I got loads if you need any and at a lot cheaper price than Subaru, I can tell you!

Thanks for that Blitz and Wuz, the car has only done 23k so I wonder would I get away with the original gaskets. Its not a money issue but as I am off to-morrow it being St Patricks day in Ireland and I was thinking of diving into fitting it in the morning. There will be no Subaru dealers open to-morrow. I wonder would I get the gasket in any motor factors?

Tmo,

I went for the hayward and Scott open neck downpipe which seems very well made and is well praised on this site. I will let you know how get on.

Thanks again lads.
