Default Con rod installation

The manual says (and I quote):

"Position the con rod with the marked side facing forward." Can someone clarify which direction forward is in this instance?

"Ensure arrow on conrod cap faces the front." No arrow on my caps.

There are letters marked on the side of the cap and rod which Im matching up so I think Ive got the cap on right wrt the rod, but the rod assy can still go on in 2 different ways. Should the letters face the top of the engine or the sump when finally installed?

Cheers.
