GearBox Guru's - Gearbox Technical Description Required
Do any of you mechanical type guru's no of a good technical description of how all the internals within a gearbox work in harmony with each other.
i.e how each gear is selected and what the synchro's do, are the gears free to spin during a gearchange, how 5th and reverse selection differs from 1st/3rd and 2nd/4th etc..etc...
had a quick look through a haynes but it's very high level....
I did take a FWD box apart may years ago to replace some bearing's, but I can't get into my head how it all works......

The usual Arrrrrghhh there is lots of cogs and teeth arrrgghhh expression..
this is rather neat but is taken from a mini gearbox
Try comparing it to the Scoob manual which is on Chris Palmers website if you haven't already got a copy.

Also, How Stuff Works has a good interactive gearbox demo at http://auto.howstuffworks.com/transmission3.htm
