Default diff noise

i only got my 1998sti/4 2 weeks ago and i bought it with what i thought was diff noise,so i bought a second hand diff and put it in and its exactly the same. a slight wine and some vibration at about 3000rpm.
i've now been told its the uprated bushes in the axle carrier arm, because there so much harder they transmit all the diff noise to the body.
and i've wasted £500.
has anyone had the same thing.
