VF34 Turbo... Ok for MY93 WRX with mods?? Please Look :O)
Hello All
I am in the market for a new Turbo (Old one noisey and whines on down run and spools very late) for my My93 WRX with mods below
HKS Superflow Intake
HKS Exhuast system
De-catted
HKS FMIC
HKS EVC Boost Controller
I was told when I brought the car that it has a P1 Turbo Fitted, It has IHI written on it, but no numbers whatsoever.. I have been told a P1 turbo is a VF28 which is quite a small turbo with very good spooling but limited middle/top end?... can anyone confirm this?
I have been offered a nearly new VF34 IHI Turbo, which looking at specs seems a good idea... Hmmm What do I know!!
Would this be a good Turbo to fit to my car, I am after a mix of good spooling/power, rather than just power!!
Also with above mods at what rpm can I expect to hit 1.1 bar pressure in 3 & 4 gear?
Please help me!!
Cheers
Rob

Yes this is a front entry turbo, the car has been modded to suit, using a 90 degree samco elbow...
I know that the VF34 will go straight on.
My turbo has no markings whatsoever, just IHI turbo!! I could get this one overhauled by not knowing what turbo it is etc, I feel that putting a turbo I know on is a better way to go, plus if this is a P1 VF28 Turbo it has a 15 housing which is very good spooling but loses middle/top end power
I want good spooling and bottom/middle, not to fussy about massive top end power, I want good driveability!!

It is probably that the turbo is tired or not on the correct boost control that it is not spooling up well. VF28 has P18 housing. Should spool up similar to a front entry TD05, VF34 etc.

So at what RPM could I expect to hit 1.1bar boost with this new vf34 fitted considering my mods, in 3rd and 4th gear..... when should you hit 1.1 bar in 1st and 2nd anyway... getting to know how my WRX should behave!!
