Question how to clean ITG air filter??

Just had 30k service on my MY02 - the garage are saying the ITG filter is dirty and also leaking some oil on to the MAF - as I've lost the box it came in, how do I clean the filter?

Any help appreciated!

throw it in the bin. Get a green/blue or paper Sti one.

Agree with Steve

Get rid of it....

Although the MY02 MAF is less sensitive than other years you are still risking your engine for marginal power gains.

My advice would be to buy a non-oil coated one and fit a green cotton or genuine STI one...

PS My ITG Panel filter resulted in a failed MAF and a new short block and a bill for over £2500... so I would take Steve's advice

I'm amazed that someone who obviously isn't a "newbie", has had a professional outfit reinforce most people's beliefs/concerns about ITG filters ******* up MAF sensors, and has then posted on here asking how to clean said filter... I mean, ffs, are you that determined to tempt fate...?

Throw the bloody thing in the bin, get an STi/K&N/Green as a replacement, and count yourself lucky you're one of the fortunate ones where the replacement will cost you £40, instead of £2500 like SiPie...

Yep,my MY01 suffered a MAF failure due to an ITG filter,it was covered in gunk.

Are you sitting down £360 + Vat for a replacement as Subaru wouldnt swap it under warranty due to the filter used.
Before you lot all say you can buy just the MAF, you cant on the 01 onwards cars you have to buy the whole airbox unit with the MAF.

When the model reaches 4 years old they will sell the MAF as a stand alone item like they do for the classic.

I managed to borrow one shall we say from an MY03 demo car.

I have another brand new one for sale for £90 if your interested.

In the bin with it. My MAF failed too after 4 months, only an ECU reset showed it up.

Just installed one of these JR filters. I stayed well clear of the ITG due to horror stories.

JW Racing are pleased to announce that we have found what we believe to be one of the most effective air filters available giving up to 99% Maximum Filtration with 40% better airflow down to 2.8 microns!!! We use or recommend this as our first choice in air filter in our new performance packages.

So why did JW Racing decide to go with JR?

Well apart from the noticable improvement in throttle response & performance in general, found during back to back tests with two other top name filters, the JR Air Filters are used by the top Group N Rally Teams in the UK in Subaru and Mitsubishi.

Most wet foam filters leave a rather undesirable residue or goo which tends to transfer itself onto the MAF sensor, we also found these filters to clog very easily only being able to filter particles down to 10 microns, reason enough to look for an alternative!

Manufactured from 4 layers of Surgical gauze.

Filters can be used without cleaning in some case over 150000 Kilometres.

JR Filters produce a filter for (almost) every car. A simple change of the air filter transforms your car and the way that it feels

40% more air is passing through.

Don't listen to the others, our filters work and keep your car working, other filter maufacturers are simply Green with envy!

I'm very impressed with it and its available HERE

Blimey - ITG heading binwards. Looking at the service report they were pointing out the risk of the ITG filter ******** the MAF rather than saying it was happening. I said to the garage - if it was even 'potentially' leaking oil why didn't they replace with the standard paper filter as per the usual service and put the ITG in the boot, to which they ummm'd and arrhh'd. I asked them to give me a paper filter and I'd do it myself which they did (after I pointed out I'd already paid for it in the menu price).

Strangely no other Subaru dealer has ever commented on the itg - or the full decat.

Same happened to me as SiPie - 4000 Euros (2700 quid) for a new short engine and other assorted bits .

Chuck the ITG and buy a genuine STi filter - check out ScoobyMania as they do them.

Cheers
Richard
