hi there
i have just lost another gearbox on cadwell park . it was not when changing gear and it was not during a bad gear change. i was in part throttle in third and then flooring it ended up in tears.

i have spoken to several people and they said there is no solution for this, as the subaru gearbox is quite weak . i am not going to get a dogbox as this is my only car.

i will get a second hand gear box to save my self sometime just now but what shall i do with the my gear box ? is there any other components that i can use to build it up with that will be stronger than standard ?

the car is running well over 320lbf/ft of torque i would hate to turn it down. and i do a lot of track days, this is the reason for keeping the car so i need something to withstand a lot of abuse

please help

Try Town End Garage on 01524 733837 ask for Stuart . When I had my box rebuilt by them they said that they could fit uprated gears , can't remember the price but they charged me £400 to repair mine , 3rd gear stripped .

Sam.

I have a "spare" gearbox from a very low mileage P1 if you are interested, includes centre diff?

Obviously I want more than £400.00 for it, but I don't want £3K either.

Mike.

I have purchased as Subaru twin turbo manual gear box, (the >= 1998 imprezas are basically the same) basically the strongest gearbox Subaru make, it has twin baulk rings, so allows easier gear changes with less chance of crunch. When I stripped it down I had all the gears crack tested and shot peened. Here is a pic from my web site.
