Question

I'm thinking about upgrading the hoses in the engine bay.
I'm ok with the turbo and coolant hoses as they come in kits anyway!!!.
I'm concerned about the sizes of the vacuum hoses though, I'm sure I read on here somewhere at sometime that the vacuum hoses are about 4mm, I'm sure as well after looking at the hoses that there looks to be 2(or even 3)different sizes for the vacuum.
As the ends of most of the hoses are bigger in internal diameter than they were originally, due the being stretched etc over the nipples etc, I was wondering if anybody out there has done this.
If so what are the correct sizes.

Thanks in advance.

Thumbs up

Hi dude, I have recently had to upgrade my Vacuum hoses and found the standard Subaru ones (red strip down side) are approx 3.5mm bore size. You cannot get this size bore hose from Samco so I went for the 4mm bore size.
This is ok for me as I am no longer running standard ECU therefore non standard boost control strategy.
Standard Scoob boost control is very sensitive as you can tell from the amount of posts covered on boost. By simply having a split in your vac hose can give you under/over boost depending upon where it is. Therefore one can deduce that by altering the bore sizes can have a negative effect on your boost control. Unless you have a modified ECU I would strongly suggest sticking to standard Subaru Vac Hose and get it ordered from a Scoob dealer.
If you are running a modified ECU where boost was remapped, then the size of the hose will have been taken care of during the map.
I am not a guru on this, so feel free to ask around for further advice.

Hello

You might like to try SFS (Silicone Fabrication Services) also as they are a competitor to Samco and have just launched their range of hoses for the Scoob.

Their direct no. is 01582 412697.

Don't have any personal experience on changing the hoses myself but do know this company.

Good luck

Jo

Or you can go down the Max Power route and recolour your pipes! There is a spray that can change the colour. I've never used it so really can't comment!

Thanks for the replies fella's.

Jacko
I had a feeling that the system would be sensitive to any change in size to the pipe work. Thus the reason I asked about the correct size, thanks you confirmed my queries.

Jo
I'll give them a ring to see if they do a 3.5mm hose. Thanks.

Andy.
Thanks but not my cup of tea!!!.

Red face

Folks. Just to let you know, Samco hoses don't seem to be as strong as I expected.

Check this out, happened Tuesday, only running 1.2 Bar and B A N G !!!! Thought my engine had blown. Not impressed
