a few questions i could do with answers for. please.
1. could i change the gearbox oil for a thicker oil, the gear change is rough and i have been told this will help. can anyone reccommend a viscocity
2. which heatshield is common for rattling
3. is it common for the sump to leak oil
the car is a 93wrx
any help would be most appreciated

 

1. I use Castrol Syntrax 75W90. Haven't used any other, so can't offer advice on alternative. Slightly over-filled can help 3rd gear...

2. Heat shield around turbo stands a good chance.

3. Wouldn't have thought so...! Have you checked the sump plug/washer...?

 

i havent got a shield round the turbo on mine mate, its open.
the leak seems to be comin from above the washer but its hard to tell cuz i can't seem to see where its all comin from

 

The heat shield next to the sump (and kind of sump shaped) has three mounting points, its common for one of these to crack. If you can find which one (if you are not too lardy you should be able to get under with a torch) you can fix it by putting a washer on the under side. Mind your eyes though because there is likely to be loose rust knocking about.
