Question

Hi,

Having been pottering around with my car last night (97WRX), I'm confused about a couple of things and would appreciate someone unconfusing me!
As I understood it the wastegate is on the exhaust side of turbo and dump valve the 'output' side of turbo. I have read in many posts that the 'Wastegate solenoid' is on the offside suspension turret. I have found this and traced the pipes (2)- one goes back to the T piece that connects to the dump valve (or what I think is the dump valve). So if this is the wastegate solenoid why does it have a pipe coming from the dump valve??....
Is this solenoid on the turret really the wastegate solenoid?
I also saw (having taken off I/C a sensor of some sort in the exhaust just below the turbo. Is this an exhaust temp sensor?

thanks for any help in clarifying this

Matt.

p.s reason why I want to know is that I was trying to clear up some hesitation at 2k->3k rpm.

Yes the solenoid does control the wastegate. The sensor in the downpipe is the lambda sensor, it measure the exhaust gas composition.

No the solenoid has nothing to do with the dump valve, if you look at the DV you can see a vacuum pipe going to the inlet manifold and nowhere else, therefore it's vacuum that controls the DV.

Talking

There is also a pipe that goes from the boost pack to the fuel pressure regulator. You arent confusing this with the dump valve perhaps?

Beastie I reckon you might have hit the nail on the head!..is the FPReg a sort of
cylinder about 2" long and bronze coloured and sort of flanged in the middle?
The pipe I traced from the solenoid goes to a T joint and one way off the T goes towards the offside to this FRregulator(?).
If so - where is the DV?

thanks,
Matt.
