Speedo has stopped working today & I wonder if anybody has had problems with imports using the speedo reduction box & catless downpipes.
I wonder if the black plastic box has got too hot & melted inside?
What precautions can I take, or does somebody make metal one ?
Failing that do the Jap & UK car use the same speedo cable ?

The speedo cable on my 95WRX melted a few weeks back where it was resting on the exhaust coming out the back of the turbo and promptly broke (know problem apparently). My car went into a safety mode and refused to rev above 4500rpm and the engine check light came on. The engine check was because the speed sensor in the gearbox got screwed in the process, if your not getting that it could be the cable where it goes into the back of the dash. I'm only guessing I'm afraid but definately check the state of the cable where it comes out the bulkhead and curves down to the gearbox.
I think the cable and the pipe thing that sticks out the top of the gearbox are not the same as the UK cars. I was lucky and my local import specialist (GDA) had one available otherwise he was talking about having to get one from Japan!
Good luck, hope you get it sorted soon.
