just put a magnex 6x4 system on the car.. its a bit on the loud side to say the least.. i have put 2 layers of underlay (that i got with the exhaust) under the boot carpet, which has made things better, but it is still bloody noisy !!

has anyone done anything to quieten down things in the cabin at all ? any ideas.. ?

i really like the exhaust, but on long runs, i reckon it will get annoying..

cheers, alex.

I had a firestorm on my STI Type R. It made it unbearable to drive with a drone that made your teeth rattle. It was louder inside than out, I had to wind down a window to release sound pressure

Took it off after 5 days !

I have a blitz on my Type R with a 3" system from turbo back, tested it at a subaru meet (although possibly not properly, i think it was 45 deg at 1metre) reading was 120dB - thats fapping loud - love it though!

Scorpion Decat Down Pipe, Scorpion decat Center and Afterburner back box, means a nice rumble thats loud when you floor it, but sensible enough for everyday, at least none of the neighbours have complained.

Have a m8 who ruds a full blitz system and he annoys ther neighbours across the road

I have a decat centre and Firestorm and its bladdy loud! Almost 'too' loud in built up areas but out on open road sounds awesome. Well worth the change from the normal STI7 exhaust setup.

I have a 5Zigen Fireball system fitted to my Type R, it's the loudest system I have heard so far (flame suit on), after a long journey I some times get ringing in my ear but I still would'nt swop it. My neighbours I think would disagree

HKS Downpipe & Blitz Nur Spec BB is loud although I am reliably informed that the BPM Twister III is possibly THE loudest BB available? (correct me if I am wrong!)

Hi Alex,

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thinks all of the above are totally crazy

Ok, I got an MY00 wagon, and completely decatted her with a system from H&S (their quiet version apparently ).

The first time I took it out I thought OMFG, this is loud

It is true though, after a few days it did get quieter, just not enough

I started looking at ways of quieting her down, and I come accross a chap on here who's a member of the crazy brigade as above that wanted to swap a resonated centre pipe for a non resonated centre pipe, "cos he wanted it louder" - go figure

The difference was unbelievable, it is quieter, though not hugely. But, you know that annoying bassy drone that makes your ears go pop and you have to open the window to get rid of it? Well it's gone!!

I've also since wrapped my DP cos people say that this makes it quieter, but I really do not think that this made any real difference to the noise at all.

I don't know if it's a wagon that you've got, but I'm in the understanding that it's far worse on these primarily due to the close proximity of the rear windows to the tail pipe of the car.

cheers for the replies guys..

zhastaph ~ yeah i know "that drone" mate.. thats what is pissing me off.. it makes a lovely burble, but when you hit certain speeds, seems to be more when off the throttle, the noise seems to echo all round the car.. as you might have guessed the centre section has no resonator on it.. btw, its a classic 4dr.

sill, have to see how it goes... would wrapping part of the centre section help ?? or is this a stupid idea ??

cheers all..

IMO any noise generated from the outside of the exhaust is gonna be worse at the DP, and wrapping this made very little (if any) difference, so I really cant see any gain at all from doing the centre section.

I think ScoobyMania do a resonated centre pipe for not much more than a hundred squid, which was the one I was about to buy. BTW, mine's a magnex and the resonator looks a little more like a mini silencer.

But, since fitting it, that ear popping drone has long gone, even on motorways

My old MY99 has a BPM Twister 3 mated to a 3" straight through centre and Scoobysport DP. And I can honestly say that it is the loudest I've heard. Once went through a 10 foot diameter tunnel (under a dual carridgeway) and it was like being at a Metallica concert sat inside one of the speakers, it hurt my chest Another time I set off a house alarm

Wicked exhaust, but not for the shy or retiring types.

Dave.

I have managed to quieten my scoobysport down a bit..
wrap the downpipe.. which is good for flow and reduces in cabin noise..

Also tighten the bolts between backbox and centre.. mine was leaking here at the top and undetectable until I took it off and refitted but a few extra turns on the bolts and the in cabin noise is so much less now..

jackieFMbrunei, I have a Nur Spec R (downpipe back 3" system) mated to a H + S 3" downpipe (with splitter mod). it is fairly loud (I think it is known they are louder than the afterburner). Lovely sound though, even if i did have to add circa £1Ks worth of ICE in order to hear the stereo!

I've got a TSl downpipe along with a Nur Spec R system on my wagon.

It's loud ! Maybe too much actually, but then, put the bung in, and it's amazing what the differece is like. (looks kak though)

I could do with some sound proofing to be honest, as long journeys are a nightmare !

ive got a H and S downpipe and a spec c middle section with 2 silencers in and a magnex rear box. This is still a straight through design and its perfect.
Its a uk 95 wagon and its less droney than with all the cats in place.
Stealthy but quick
