Question

No I am not going to ask which is best more what do I tell my insurance company.

I am about to fit a whole SS system to the car (MY99) however as that effectively decats the car the car would no longer pass an MOT thus the car is illegal and thus uninsured.

Thoughts/answers please

It isn't necessarily illegal or uninsured. A vehicle doesn't have to have a cat, it just has to pass a certain emissions level. It has to pass an MOT or a DOT vehicle roadside check, but until it is proved to fail an emissions test, it ain't illegal. So, innocent until proven guilty.

Of course, it will almost certainly fail an emissions test, but that's another issue...

Tell your insurance everything. I would tell them I have fitted a stainless steel exhaust for the 20 yrs guarantee. Extra power maybe 5%.

What tell them that the system has no catalytic converters?? Surely not??

As an additional I am going travelling round Europe in September how are the Europeans with my environmentally friendly exhaust... I can see me having to leave the mid pipe on

Wink

I have told mine I have replaced the original with a stainless system with 10% increase in power. No mention of cats as as long as you have a valid MOT, no probs. To get a valid MOT put the catted DP on and get a years ticket, and whack the decat on.

It is very wise to let them know what you have done though..

Easy.
