phase 2 engine -without coil packs

am i right in thinking the phase 2 engine does not have the coil packs, it has HT leads if so, when was the coil pack-less engine introduced to UK cars?

I think the same time as on jap cars.

Think older style engine finished on sti 2, meaning 1997 or sti 3 was new style on jap.

Therefore my97, by deduction!
