Question

The Check engine light has come on a couple of times recently , once when my missus was getting a bit of grief from an Escort cossie and gave it a bit of wellie to over a ton , and Today while I was cruising down the A14 and my cruise just nudged over the ton , not driving hard just fast ,I eased back to 80-85 and the light went out . I checked the oil after the first time and it was a little high which I know can cause problems , any help or advice would be apreciated .

car is my00 oil Castrol RS 10w/60

thanks

The ECU remembers the fault codes, connect up the black leads under the dash (drivers side) turn on ignition and read off the codes. ie fault code 13 will be one long flash followed by 3 short ones. All clear is a steady on/off.

Have a look at my following post. I had the same problem but some guys on the board pointed me to the right links.

The error codes don't come up on the LCD, the "Check Engine" light blinks, read the code according to Jim's instructions.

No, the errors codes don't clear themselves. For that, you'd have to connect the plugs under the dashboard, start the engine and drive around for at least two minutes without your speed dropping under 20mph, IIRC.

Should also be explained on one of the pages mentionned in my post.

Thanks Dan

Very informative , but do the fault codes clear after reading , ie if I do it , and decide to take the car to a dealer is he going to get the same codes flash up ?

Thanks again

Code 32 which means Oxygen Sensor not working , had a gander at it, there is no obvious reason why , it's a bit oily round the wire end (Ooer missus ) but still attached .
What exactly does it do , how vital is it to the health of the engine/Turbo, and will it last a couple of thou to the next service , Oh and as I'm out of warranty what will the bug*er cost !!!!!!!!!!!!!
