Erratic tickover on Jap import MY97

The usual steady tickover of 700 rpm has changed in last week to barely 550 rpm, but it never stalls.
It is worse after a hard run or being on the road for a couple of hours.
No faults are showing up on the DIY fault code check so where do I try next?
