Am slightly worried...

I've had a bit of a knocking sound on cold start-up for a while, just for the first mile or thereabouts. It also sometimes happens if it's in traffic, or been off and heat-soak has probably occurred. Is this the dreaded piston slap? If so, what needs to be fixed?

Secondly, as many of you now know, I've had the PPP fitted last week. I was driving fairly hard (warm engine, no problem there) once or twice and noticed (with the windows down) that under hard acceleration, it seems to make a noise a bit like someone tearing paper or cardboard when it's on high boost (holding about 17.5psi). Is this pre-detonation? Is this linked to the first problem, and another manifestation of it?

Had it rolling-roaded pre-PPP a couple of weeks back and everything came up superbly (one of the best he'd seen), but of course everything was warm then and was behaving itself - as it does for the vast majority of the time...

Help/reassurance required...

could be piston slap you will definatly hear it on start up when the engine is cold and also on load i.e just as you take up drive. it should disappear when hot though. and the only cure now is a replacement piston so get down to your local dealer and get it checked out

 

Thought so. Now booked in at Welch's for two weeks' time - first day they have a courtesy car free...
