Right, I've managed to get all the bolts undone. Last to undo are the two spring bolts joining the d/p to the centre section. These seem to have a fair bit of spring pressure and the nut is almost off the bolt. Are these going to be a nightmare to get back on - is there a technique.

Help please! Don't want to remove them and find I can't get them back on again.

Thanks

Dave

Hi Mate,

They are a bit of a bitch but you should be OK with them. Trick is to wind them both up equally - dont tighten up one side on it's own or you probably will not get the other side on.

If this is still a problem you can always try longer bolts or another trick is to pre-compress the springs using cable ties. Apply a cable tie around 2 or 3 of the spring coils and pull it closed with pliers. Put 2 cable ties on each spring to close it, get the nuts started after fitting then cut the cable ties.

Hope this all makes sense.....

i use a pair of gas pliers there the ones that u can shorten or lengthen the width of the jaws by opening them up and sliding the centre pivot pin 2 a diffrent slot[sorry ony way i can think of describing them].

Unfortunately I ran out of time to bu66er around with it, so ended up putting it back together again! I was trying to replace a decat d/p with the original catted d/p to get it through the MoT next week, and cause I want to wrap the decat d/p to quieten it down. Must be getting old cause I find the full decat system way too loud now.

There was no way the spring bolts were going to go back on easily - the bolts didn't extend out of the end of the nuts at all with the springs fully compressed, and I didn't have time to go looking for new longer bolts. Also didn't have the bolt to reattach the cat to the side of the gearbox.

Oh well, I'll end up paying my friendly local dealer an hour's labour to do it for me...
