What's LSD's best for road?
#1
Any of you tech guys know what's best on new age WRx for road only use? I've been looking at ATB Quaife but I've heard you can get plate rear diffs etc. I'm looking to change the lot and add uk six speed box.

It´s all a bit personal. If you take the 6-speed gearbox you already have the Suretrack diff at the front, I would keep that and add a plated diff at the rear. Center from the 6-speed gearbox should be O.K.
If you like it less agressive (less oversteer) I would suggest a Quaife ATB at the rear.

Cheers Mark....think I'd like it with less oversteer...but why does the plate diff give these results? Sorry to be a plank on diffs, as I've only got info on Quaife gear at present.
Would it be better, having the UK 6 speed box, with Suretrack rear diff over ATB item?

The ATB behaves about the same as the Suretrack, lock is applied if there is torque difference between L and R. A plated diff has always a certain amount of lock, even if there is no difference in torque or rotating speed. You could use the rear diff of the new age STi, but I think you will have to do the whole rear axle......

Hmm, maybe due to cost I might have to stick with ATB...being that I must do clutch and 6 speed gearbox (both are becoming iffy). I've heard many good things re the ATB items..and they're cheap when compares to suretrack kit.
Plate rear diffs are very expensive yeh and they have more wear? Is there a limit on power with plated diff? Of is it just to do with the diff works under braking but an ATB wouldn't?
