Question

Wonder if someone can help me. I've just bought a MY97 after wanting one for years.
When using the throttle in mid range I hear a whistling sound. Been told this is the dump valve. Any ideas how to fix this or do I just have to live with it.
Alas.

[Hi Alas , the noise you describe does sound like the dump valve. I think the only real answer is to replace with a new one. i dont know how much they are but it is an easy job you could do yourself....

Whistling Sound?

Are you sure thats not the Turbo spooling up?

A leaking dumpvalve sounds like when you blow across the top of a bottle. Have a look at the faq at

Alas,

Welcome to Scoobydom.

Whistling sound, does sound like the Turbo.

Mine whistles most of the time but I've got a full SS exhaust and removed the resonator so I can hear the turbo from 2k revs on light throttle

Talking

If the noise is at 3000 rpm (+/- 300 depending on engine load), the car is an MY97 and the noise is like a hooter or deep blowing noise then chances are that it is the DV.
Cost is about £60.00 from Graham Goode but quote any part no.s etc off side of DV if you can.

Thanks DaveW
After a run this morning it is definitely more of a whistle than anything else. Not had a turbo before(used to drive an MX6) so will have to get used to the new noises. Also find it unusual(but more fun) changing down for power as the V6 made me lazy. Off out for another run to have a listen.
Thanks All
Alas
