Hi

Are there any common problems with Impreza turbos/sports (apart from the fuel costs)

Ive read through loads of buying guides etc and also printed off the SIDC FAQ, loads of good advise in it, but its now 3 years old, and the common problems out lined in that are prob out of date aswell.

What year and version of motor are you thinking of ? The *known* problems varied with versions & model years ...

for the turbo id be looking at MY97/98

sport id be looking at MY99/00

turbo 97/98 the significant problem is piston slap ( motor sounds like a diesel when cold - noise goes away when warmed up ). New piston / short engine is the likely remedy - may already have been done. Make sure you hear it start up from stone cold.
