Hi,

First time on the Forum.

I have recently bought a 1996 (P reg) UK spec scooby turbo. It is a pre tweak model (I understand these tweaks were done for the R reg models).

The performance is blinding, especially when the turbo kicks in at full throttle in first gear. It is also easily the best handling car I have ever driven, or been in (even beat an R1 over the mountain section of the TT - admittedly the roads were damp).

Anyway, I am pretty much getting used to it now and I think I could do with a touch more power, especially when accelerating in 4th or 5th on motorways.

Any of you chaps/chapesses got any advice/ideas regarding mods, expected improvements and possible costs (cheaper the better as I am currently bying a house).

Ta
Spatch.

Pretty much defacto will be:

Brakes - After a few hard stops they turn to mush. Lard has more stopping power! I am going to be going EBC discs with Mintex pads.

There is such diversity. I won't bother telling you about AP's as your buying a house. These AP's cost circa £1300.

Next up is exhaust. Again there are loads to choose from and it depends on what you want from it.
More noise, power or a combination of both. Favourites seem to be - Scooby Sport and HKS. Scorpion is used by Stef. V Loud according to some. BPM are starting to get a following on here.

Chips - Either PossomLink (refered to as Link) or UniChip. Unichip seems to be the cheaper. Pro's and cons for both.

Oh yes nearly forgot, the Bump Steer removal. Don't ask me. I've only had my car for 5 months.

I have covered a few topics in basic. If you use the very good search engine with this BBS, then you will find buckets on the above and other things.

Whatever you do. DO the brakes. Don't forget to upgrade the brakes. I didn't think I was going to need to. I was wrong!

Hope this helps,

P.

PS. Welcome aboard and watch out for Sunil and Dave T.S. scrapping all over the place.

Thanks guys,

Gives me something to start looking at.

I'll tell you something, I thought the brakes were/are top notch, I have not experienced mush yet - I am obviously not driving it hard enough!!!!

Spatch.

PS when chipping the car what do the new chips do, hold boost longer, increase max boost, increase fuelling or a combination of all. If so I assume it does not affect reliability?
