Question

Could someone tell me the differences between the STI2 and the STI3 engines that allow the 800 rpm to the redline .
Cheers Dave

according to the official history pages on the sti site...

improvements for the version 3 were:

better cooling due to re-design of the front of block. Also general improvement in engine strength especially the cylinder head and bolts.

lighter, lower friction pistons with less vibration + better stability at high speeds,
the piston skirt is also much shorter and the materials used superior.

fwiw - the sti 3 also had uprated brakes and a stiffer body shell than the sti2.

it also states that the rev limit was increased from 7500 to 7900 rpm = +400 revs

doubtless someone will now contradict this though ;-)
