Question

Is the c£100 Extra for s/s item worth it?
Is the difference in sound greatly different
Or do i pay £100 less for a magnex?
Is there any noticable difference in performance?
I will have to get a replacement B/B soon and would like impartial advice please.
If enough people are that adamant that scoobysports b/b is that much better I will splash out the exta quite happily.
Or is it the kudos of the scoobysport name ?
Thanks - Jim.

Jim,

Best thing to do is go to a meet and listen to various backboxes.

I listened to Prodrive, Magnex, Milltek and Scoobysport. Before deciding on Scoobysport, based purely on noise and looks .But it is a personal choice.

I'm going to change my backbox soon to the ScoobySport.
My decision is mainly based upon the number of owners running these. Also the name !! Let Fords and Vauxhalls use Magnex !! )

Don't worry about any performance difference between the two sytems though, it's not an issue as you won't feel any difference with either one. You'll need a replacement de-cat downpipe to improve performance to any great extent.

I haven't checked yet but do you know the availability on the S/S b/b ?? I really must put my order in ! )

Jim,
I asked myself the same questions a few weeks ago. I finally chose the Magnex BB for the following reasons:

***Personal Opinion***
1. There is no difference in sound intensity between the two BB's. Low down both make similar noise. At higher revs the Scoobysport is more musical whereas the Magnex does a 'screaming' noise.

2. No difference in performance between the two. Actually I would argue that no one would notice the difference in performance in switching from the original BB to a free flowing one. It is more the phychological effect of having more noise. (Actually at very high revs there could be a slight difference)

3. I think the Magnex (Oval 6x4) looks better. The bumper exactly above the BB sits slightly higher and the Magnex exacly fits this gap making it look really neat. I don't like the way the Scoobysport pipe sticks out.

4. I didn't want to pay 120 pounds more... The Scoobysport is very expensive.

Apart from the price all other differences are so marginal that you can't go wrong whichever you choose.

I agree with dmel, it is personal preference which will dictate what route you take, but i think the oval back box suits the rear of the car.....sort of looks factory fit rather than aftermarket.

Had Scoobysport backbox on last car for the 2yrs. Sounded nice looked good. New car so I am now trying the Magnex 6X4 oval. Looks V good and sounds good. Saved about £120 and very happy with it. Perhaps that £120 should go towards a downpipe.

Bob

I didn't think you were going for any power mods on this car?

Doc/
The backbox will give no extra power. If I do get a downpipe this gives no extra power acording to the dyno graphs.

Got a Magnex 3 1/2" round pipe, over the SS Box, all boiled down to cost really.
Looks good and sounds good. And above all it's not intrusive at all when cruising on the Motor-way.

Revolution sell both the 3 1/2" round and 6x4 Oval for £199.

Go on you know you want too....

I also went for the Magnex 3 1/2" along with a K&N panel for my MY00.
Got them from Falkland last week for £230 all in.
I think the Magnex sounds every bit as good as the Scoobysport. It also comes with lifetime warranty.

Check out the very cheap Magnex back box in the sales section, especially if you live on the other side of the Irish sea...(blatant plug!)

I went for the Magnex oval box over the scoobysport because

a) It looks better
b) It sounds better
c) It's £120 cheaper

No contest!

I had the same dilema with regard to exhaust systems. My final choice was the Magnex centre section and a copy of the Blitz back box. The box is straight through with a 4.5in tailpipe. Looks brill. Sounds brill.

I was going to fit the SS backbox on my car, until I read this thread. I hadn't considered the Magnex as an alternative.

I've just bought a Magnex 3 1/2" from Graham Goode (ordered yesterday afternoon and arrived this morning at 0800 ). The back box was fitted on my way to work this morning - fantastic sound and perhaps a little smoother (although it is probably a little too early to tell).

Highly recommended - build quality is excellent and fitting was very straight forward (took about 10 minutes to remove standard bb and fit the new one).

Top marks to Magnex and Graham Goode for their service.

Chris

Having seen a magnex for the first time today on a MY00 in DBM (same colour as mine), I am glad I went for the SS.
Personally, I think the SS looks much better, the magnex doen't look as meaty.
However, as stated time and again above it's all subjective.

Matt
