Cool

Mark,

What's up mate Scooby feeling slow

Try Silkolene Pro-Boost, seems to be what some people are using. Should be OK for CATs but I haven't used it for a few years so can't remember.

PS I'll call you this week and we can go and blind some victims

Mark,

I've been using Millers "Octane Plus-C" in my STI V. This is supposed to be ok for Cats and works out at £3.50 for a 250ml Bottle which treats 50 litres, they quote that it gives a "typical 1.9 octane points"

I haven't got a knock link sensor fitted as of yet so the my results are based on just how the car performs to which I haven't noticed a big difference, but I use it to give a bit of engine protection so I can sleep easier

I've got a couple of cans of the Silkolene Pro Boost but haven't used it yet, mainly because its more of a pain to add. It comes in 1 litre cans and you mix it at between 1% to 3% which means measuring out 500ml into a container on the garage forecourt also at anything above 1%, and a lot of people recommend 1.5% it's more expensive

You can get both direct from DemonTweeks.

Cheers

Mike

Just read another post (general - Sti iii paranoia) which said that adding Pro-Boost increases the engine temp which is not good. Recommends using Millers VSL which is supposed to be better plus the engine runs cooler.

Gentlemen,

DO NOT use Millers VSP Plus on any Impreza/WRX/STi engines, please. This substance is only to be used on older engines which were designed to run on leaded petrol and now need unleaded with this additive to compensate. Yes, it is an octane booster as well, but not for our cars.
Millers Octane Plus C is the only product besides the CVL (racing octane booster and very expensive) to be used in modern engines which use the lambda sensor in conjunction with the catalytic converter. Even if you have a cat-free downpipe still use Octane Plus-C as lambda sensor does not like being damaged with wrong additives. There is also Octane Plus-NC (non catalytic) which is to be used with engines without lambda and cat than can use unleaded fuel.

So, either Octane Plus-C or CVL (if you have money and want 100RON) and you will be fine.

The above info is the result of extensive dialogue with Millers over a period of some weeks.

Sorry guys! It was me who posted about Millers VSP. Whilst I was having my 30k service done, I was speaking to a chap with a Porsche 930 Turbo, he recommended it as he used it. I was a bit concerned about it being a lead substitute + octane booster so I phoned Millers direct to check it out and they said NO don't use VSP on catted cars only use Octane-C plus , I reposted on the BBS explaining my findings. I now use Octane-C plus and not Proboost. The source of the proboost/overheating came from the same chap.

I did buy some VSP, but used it in the girlfriends 1990 GTi Cabrio instead.
The guys @ P+E recommended Millers CVL.
I got my Octane-C Plus from Demon Tweeks.

Thanks "quattro" for re-iterating the point about VSP, and sorry to all for my initial bad post!

Cheers
Howie

Guys,

Some info (that I have previously posted):

Millers of Brighouse are very close to me, they sell Octane Plus-C (for Scoobys) at £3.49 for 250ml. Does 50 litres of fuel & increases by 2RON.

They have counters at these branches (no mail order ):
Brighouse 01484 713201
Leicester 0116 274 2668
Edinburgh 0131 663 2018
Glasgow 0141 882 3216
Aberdeen 01224 248668

These are their stockists of this product who also (allegedly) do mail order:
ARE Ltd, Farnham, Surrey 01252 711777
Goodwood Automotive, Cranage, Cheshire 01603 836637
Demon Tweeks, Wrexham 01978 664465

Hope this info helps . . .
Paul

Quattro,
Do i understand you right, that millers now say dont use VSP?
I spoke to them about 2 weeks ago and they told me to use it instead of the other boosters providing i havnt got any cats.
How much damage could this do as i have used a couple of tanks of mixed fuel on there advise?!
Thanks...JAMES

In my conversations with Millers technical department it was never said to me that VSP Plus can be used for as long as there are no catalytic converters. This is the same story as it would seem that Octane Plus-NC (No Cat) could be used for as long as there is no cat on the car. Perhaps they even COULD be used without damage to anything else except the lambda sensor which stays in active and critical use even after the cat has been removed. As far as I know ,that is the reason why the engine needs to be treated as if it still has a cat in terms of additive choices, rather than other possible reasons.

Question

Millers Tech. Dept. just told me VSP is Cat safe/friendly, but needs mixing in different amounts to Octane +.

The 'C' & 'NC' suffixes will disappear imminently.

Offered to come to club meets and give tech. lectures, talks if required. Contact through me if anybody wants them to put an appearance in anywhere?

Mike.

Question

So, what IS the score then.

Quattro, you say don't use Miller 'NC' or 'VSP'.

I have just recieved 10 bottles of 'NC'.

1. Is this, or is this not OK?
2. What does it do to the Lambda sensor?
3. How is 'NC' that different from 'C' to cause damage to Lambda sensor?

Cheers, (a very confused)

Dave
