Red face

Whilst driving my MY00 Scooby .. 2800 miles .. at the weekend I was giving her a good thrashing - however when I lifted off the throttle I heard an almighty bang from under the car ... I stopped at the petrol station (favourite spot for us scooby owners) and looked underneath really expecting the diffs to be in bits and embedded in the underseal!! What do I see?? nothing!! what the hell was it?? has anyone had this before??? the car runs well still - was it a backfire of the most hideous kind?

Sounds like it's doing as most Scoobies do, running rich, the exhaust getting very hot after a blast, and the fuel igniting as you lift off.

I think that if the IC hose had blow, you wouldn't get any boost.

Fun, isn't it .

Mark.

During a thorough caning, when the manifold, turbo and downpipe are glowing orange I occasionally get almighty backfires, the sort that makes you thing "Christ, I've blown the exhaust clean off the car!".... but thus far it's still there and in one piece :-) I'm told that when I'me giving it some stick, it's possible to see a yellow glow from inside the exhaust! I have noticed flame-outs while driving down country lanes in the dead of night as well.... over 500W worth of lighting up front and a big ***** of a flame illuminating the back, almost as good as daylight!

Cheers,

Pat.

Cool

pslewis,

Do you have any modifications to your car? A vent to air dump valve would make for bigger backfires if you are running a standard ecu.

Wink

pslewis,

This is a common problem, which eventually leads to the rear of the car becoming seperated from the front, due to the car being sourced from an official uk dealer

Does that mean if I bought a 'grey' my grey matter would become detached from my head like yours clearly has??

Seriously I reckon the back DID come off .... the dealer said it was still worth more than a grey though

By the way this is the wrong thread - you should be having a pop at me on the other thread

Pete

Makris - you too are a misguided soul hoping to get top dollar on your dodgy 'Grey'??

Oh dear - this is a bigger problem than I at first thought .... even bigger than me at 20 stone (all muscle by the way!!)

Pete

I want these big flames to come out of my exhaust, but i will lose my license in 2 sec if i go around pushing our rex. We have soo many speed camera's and laser radars around that i spend most of my time driving at 50-60 km/hr cause they r eveywhere here in Brisbane Aust

I'm obviuosly not driving my Scooby hard enough! I've yet to have flames out the back..

I'm going out for a blast - must drive harder (keep repeating to myself)

hmm, sounds like I'm not thrashing mine enough as I've never had flames out the back, and before you say anything moray, you've got anti-lag so it don't count

I would worry if flames did come out the back, as coming our of the 4inch end of the HiperDrager would really scare the **** out of anyone behind, and probably me as well! would be a laff though
