I have the PPP fitted to my STI 8 and could do with some advice regards the exhaust.

1) Do the new age cars still have 2 cats like the classics?

2) If answer to Q1 is yes....
Does the PPP "Sports Cat", replace the centre-section/cat, or the downpipe/cat? (I'm assuming its the centre section)

3) If its the centre setion cat that was replaced, would the car benefit much from de-catting the downpipe? (who makes downpipes for STI 8?)

4) Is the PPP sports cat any good? or would I be better getting a cat replacement pipe instead of the sports cat?

5) If I replace the downpipe and/or sports cat with a de-cat pipe, will I require a re-map?

I feel that after my fully de-catted UK Classic, my STI 8 has lost its voice somewhat.....

Any help or advice you knowlegeable chaps could offer would be greatly appreciated.

01 WRX's have three, STi's have 2.
03 WRX's apparently 2, but have read that some cars have 3 ? STi's still have 2.

2) If answer to Q1 is yes....

It replaces the very restrictive factory catted downpipe.
The center section cold-start cat is removed.
So now you only have 1 cat after the PPP.

3) If its the centre setion cat that was replaced, would the car benefit much from de-catting the downpipe? (who makes downpipes for STI 8?)

No need to take out the sports cat, Prodrive say that it is no more restrictive than a cat replacement pipe.

4) Is the PPP sports cat any good? or would I be better getting a cat replacement pipe instead of the sports cat?

It does the job perfectly.

5) If I replace the downpipe and/or sports cat with a de-cat pipe, will I require a re-map?

To get the most benefit you will need to re-map, if you dont remap then a restrictor must be fitted to prevent boost spikes.

Erm, somebody I know has fitted a Blitz Nurspec to their PPP car and with the factory center section (resonated) and PPP downpipe the sound is superb without sounding too ridiculous.

Aparently before this person had a Nurspec R that was just tooooo loud.

Just changing the backbox over for a Blitz/Firestorm/Afterburner would give you the throb back again and be quickly reversable if required.

Or, full decat exhaust up/down/center and backbox plus remap would be good for 330-350bhp if you don't mind losing your warranty, bit silly if you've already done 2k on the PPP imo.

*Your warranty may be voided if you perform ANY modification to your vehicles exhaust*

Cheers Big Goon.

I'd never have guessed that it was the downpipe that they retro fitted the sports cat to. Learn something new every day.

I take it the centre section isn't that restrictive then? Quite a small resonator... or is it a cat?

So, changing just the back box will really make that much of a difference?

I need it sounding like a Scoob again. Soon.

How much do you reckon the Prodrive back box would fetch privately?

BTW

It replaces the very restrictive factory catted downpipe.
The center section cold-start cat is removed.
So now you only have 1 cat after the PPP.
If the sports cat replaces the downpipe, how is the centre section cat removed? Isn't this still in situ, making the system consist of...

Sports cat downpipe.
Centre section with cat
Back box/silencer.

?

Just edited a bit I missed out.

My 'friends' car with the Blitz sounds superb and the rest of the system is boggo standard PPP.

The resonator doesn't appear to choke the system, my 'friends' car has run with and without.

A ScoobySport backbox with a resonated section was too quiet, not a great deal louder than the standard PPP zaust.

PPP box gotta be worth £180-£200 I think, but you may need it for warranty purposes.

It goes,

Downpipe - cold start cat - center section - backbox.

Cold start cat is replaced with a silencer type thing, a very short section that may quieten the downpipe a little.

Oh and they don't retro fit the cat to the downpipe, they fit a new downpipe with the sports in it, it's all manufactured together I spose.

No way would Prodrive have got 300gg's with the standard pipe.

This is more complicated than I thought....

So, on my car, I'll have the following -:

1) PPP Downpipe/sports-cat
2) Factory Cat
3) Factory Centresection/resonator
4) PPP Back box

Is this right?

If so, would a Nur Spec R replace 2, 3 and 4? or just 3 and 4?

Cheers again.

1) PPP Downpipe/sports-cat Yes
2) Factory Cat small cat is replaced with a silencer.
3) Factory Centresection/resonator Yes
4) PPP Back box Yes

Nurspec R is technically only for Jap cars that have a longer downpipe, so you will need a link pipe that replaces part 2 and makes part 1 and the Nurspec center marry up.

Prodrive can/will only endorse their own product, can't blame them for that.

Mark doesn't say what backbox he has, but you will notice a massive difference if you swap your backbox for a Blitz/Firestorm/Afterburner and a bigger difference if you ditch the resonated section.

Don't forget the Blitz comes in two versions, only the R has a center section, bung and needs the link.
The boggo standard version will fit straight onto your car in 10 minutes.

I've had my exhaust off more times than me missus's knick knacks, unless somebody tells me that 7+8's are different.
