Can a JDM ECU be used with a UK STi 7/8 motor?

I'm curious about if this will work and if it will just plug right in. I assume the engines are physically the same, but someone please correct me if I am wrong. Would a PPP ECU be a better option? Thank you.

JDM ECU's are set-up to run on 100+ octane fuel. UK ECU's are optimised for EU spec fuel. I would have thought they are the same ECU but just run different maps.

PPP or ECUTEK on the UK ECU would be better option asuming you are in the UK that is.

Will it connect and work properly? What octane gas is it set up for?

There are cam and turbo differences too. Plus IIRC the UK motors run a lower rev limit with longer gearing, I can't remember if the JDM internals are different to allow the higher rev limits.

Better to get your UK ECU remapped.

Thank you. There isn't that big of a difference between the VF30 and VF35, is there? Would anything be affected negatively by using the JDM ECU on the UK engine? My fuel cut kicks in a bit passed 8k and I have a Ver. IV tranny with the 4.44 ratio. I wish someone would tell me how to check if I have a PPP ECU. Any ideas?

I can't see it being optimum when all the bits are wrong. There are other better ways to get power out of it.

Your fuel and ignition maps are for the wrong fuel and the wrong hardware.

It is about as useful as trying to fit a P1 ECU to a UK MY99/00 turbo IMHO.

The VF30 has a larger turbine housing (P18 cf P15). A P18 duty cycle map would probably make the P15 overboost during spool up. To kill that without remapping you could kill response elsewhere.

Trust me, it is a no-hoper this one.

The JDM ECU will not work unless you do some mods to the PCB in the ECU or to the cabling.

P.S. I wouldn't use the JDM ECU if you are looking for more HP for your UK car! Go for a remap of your ECU, I am sure you get much better results that way.

Mark.

Well, fuel isn't an issue, I'm in the US. But thanks. I was just thinking of either getting a JDM ECU or a PPP ECU, but I may already have a PPP ECU(doubt it), just not sure how to check. They just stopped selling 94 octane around here, which isn't good. What gas does the UK STi use? Thanks for the info.

It is about equivalent to your 92-93 PON I reckon.
