Thumbs up

I took the rear cover off the boot lid(where you gain access to the wiper motor. I then used some plastic bags (approx 300 mm square) and 1/2 filled them with foam filler. I made sure they were the right way up and put them inside the cavities in the boot lid.

The filler then expands inside the bags and is held by the boot lid plastic cover that you will refit. This made a big difference to noise in my leg t estate.

If you do this dont let the wet foam drip onto your car, mats or your good jacket you were wearing like I did Its a real no no, It dont come off once its on your clothes oh no

I have sound matted the floor and sealed the spare wheel well.

The filler was done after these and masked the noise very well.

I find with the wagons / estates that the noise tends to come through the glass so unless you make a perspex boot to passenger cell devider and seal it in you arent going to be as noise free as the saloon guys an gals.

Have any wagon owners successfully reduced the booming in-car after fitting an aftermarket exhaust? I've got a full Scoobysport system fitted with downpipe etc and although the exhaust sounds great, it's offensively boomy in the car. I guess that the wagon effectively acts as a giant speaker-enclosure. The boot is already dynomatted - has anyone got any ideas other than getting a boxed centre-section?

Cheers...

Will this help much? If I drive with the windows open it is okay, it's only when I effectively seal the box that it gets boomy and the sound is worse the further back in the car you are.

Cheers...

I also used Dynamat around the spare wheel well. ALso check the bungs in the boot are securely fixed, mine had one half popped into the boot, leaving a giant hole.

You can also look at something the seal the spare wheel well, My Legacy has a rigid plastic cover, which helps when sealed with soft foam strip around the edge.

Agree with Lagging downpipe..

Although mine is still fairly loud, full scoobysport too..

I have one of the bungs in the boot removed to allow water that aways makes it's way in out.. might try replacing it is Paul thinks it makes a difference.

The wifes doesn't moan about the noise.. much..

On a related subject.. anyone know if a 3inch HKS Superlugger with bung in is quieter than a full scoobysport?

Cheers for the ideas guys. I've got some exhaust wrap in the garage so can get some of that around the downpipe and see what difference it makes. The dynomat I've got is a large sheet the size of the boot area so that will efectively seal the wheel-well, but I'll see what else can be done. If you have any more ideas, feel free to shout them out.

Cheers...

I thought my PE T75 exhaust was still noisy after I put layers
of sound deadening felt under the rear seats, under the
boot protector and a doubled up layer of thick carpet on
top of that.

I didn't realise how much they helped until I got out of the
car at idle; to get something out of the boot...

Another thing to watch out for are the inside covers over the
rear lights in the hatch and the screws holding the plastic
stops on the luggage cover. The exhaust vibration tends
to work them loose.

Ste - I like your thinking and will give that a go. I agree that most of the noise seems to come through the glass - I get no noise at all from any of the piping from the front of the car (I have dynomat under all the carpets).

Thanks mate...

Wink

Thanks for the thanks

Glad I could be of assistance.

Just be careful with the filler, its plain evil.

My other half went ape $hit when she saw what I'd done to me best jacket.

I would line the boot with plastic (if I did it again) in case of dripage and dont work under the lid when youve just put it all back to gether.

Some will get out of the bags and drip.

It also makes the boot sound better built when you shut it.

Let me know when youv'e done it.

Good Luck.

Ste.
