Question

I was thinking about getting my self this one instead of billions of wierd placed gauges...

Is it me or does this thing display the hole lot?

Has anyone tried it?

I know it will not allow me to adjust anything, but just make me fell safe that all is running well.

And is that big socket not in the way when heel-and-toing going full-lock sideways at 80mph...

Martin

(oops here it is just in case...)

The connector doesn't get in the way for me at all, and I don't have the shortest legs.

It can display pretty much everything you could get from a guage, but oil temp/pressure will require the purchase of an extra sensor to plug in.

I've been pretty pleased with mine. Looks like they've recently up-dated their web site as well http://www.psi3.co.uk.

The only downsides to the SECS is:
It reports what the ECU 'sees' rather than what may be 'actually' happening. If you have any piggy-back chips, or possibly Dawes (?) you may not see the 'real' value, which could be a problem when altering things.
Secondly I have had issues with the display changing 'intensity', where on a hot day the display will be completely black - but my hot days are a bit hotter than yours!

Finally if you change ECU the SECS wiill be useless!

Overall it is a great bit of kit, but I would recommend a mechanical boost gauge and Knocklink as 'independant' devices as well

Thumbs up

I'd agree with Neil - it's a good bit of kit but I'm going to supplement it with a Defi boost gauge and a Knocklink. The boost display is just out of the line of sight and not as easy to read out of the corner of your eye as a standard gauge is.

The display does indeed suffer in the heat (even our crap UK heat!) - it goes dark blue when hot but reappears fairly quickly once you get the aircon on. Usual LCD stuff realy.

PS. How's Dubai? Spent a fair bit of time there earlier this year...mostly in the bar at the top of the Burj I might add
Happy days

Thanks guys...

I was thinking about getting it PPP'd....
Would this be changing the ECU, so that the SECS doesn't work any more??

Martin

>DubaiNiel
...and yes your hot days are hotter than mine.....damnit..
But my TAX is bigger than yours!!! (25.500£ on top of the price of the car!!!)

have the SECS1003 and its excellent value and it actually tell you what you DO want to see. With the 1003 you can add extra things like gear change lights etc, its full of good stuff.just check out power stations page for the full specshttp://www.powerstation.org.uk/secs.asp

On data page 5 - the main one i use it shows you:-
Boost pressure
Oil Temp
Oil Pressure
Coolant temp

Add to that the high and low alarm settings and you are covered on most things. There are other pages like the max setting pages like boost which show you as you are driving the Boost pressure also timing advance, throttle percentage, Airflow etc,etc full list in on the page above.

Its easy to install as well. Its just a plug below the steering column as pictured in the .pdf docs above.

note:I got mine fitted at Power station and they connected up the Oil temp and Oil pressure as these are seperate from the ECU readings...but fit onto a wired loom attatched to the SECS monitor. Thats where you can add the change up light etc...

Hope this helps a bit. Also dont get the issue with the contrast on the monitor in cold or hot..maybe its just an LCD thing over time but i dont have that problem sorry guys..

SECS will work with PPP as this is internal to the stock ECU. I have a Unichip piggy back at present, and am planning to move to Motec soon, so will have to sell the SECS!

Dubai can be a touch hot, but only around 50C - the 'winter' has started, so just a balmy 28C! - still the skiing sucks

The Burj is v.v. nice, my wife is a director in that hotel group, so priveledges include free food there! Shame she may be giving up work when our baby arrives though!

DubaiNiel...sell it to me then

Which model is it - the one I would want is the stand alone that fits where the radio sits (DIN).

hmmmmm...so you get to eat under water!!
A friend of mine just went there - should be pretty extravagant!!
You could invite me to come and pick up the SECS then ;o)

Cheers!

As I said, I will sell it when the Motec goes in, this may be a while with my first baby arriving any day now - spending patterns may change a bit in the short term

Buyer would have to collect...

The 'underwater' restaraunt is actually a bit of a misnomer the 'submarine' ride to get to it is actually a tarted up lift - the food is pretty good though! Apparantly someone is building an underwater hotel in Dubai now!
