Hi Peeps,

It was a bitter cold day on Sunday and my car had been parked at the parents since a long motorway drive on Friday night. The driveway is slightly downhill, with the front wheels lower than the back.

I started up the car and was sitting there a few mins waiting for it to warm up a little. When I went to reverse to turn around, I blipped the throttle a touch (a couple of hundred revs) and I heard what sounded like liquid coming from the gear box area. I thought I was going mad so I tried again, and heard the same sloshing liquid sound. I thought it strange and went to the local garage (for fuel) and came back. I could hear the same thing every now and again while pulling up to junctions. The sound was something similar to shaking water in a half filled 2ltr coke bottle.

Just wondering if this is a) bad, b) normal, c) something to worry about? I've never heard it before, and it was very clear, and pretty loud, only happening when I blipped the throttle a little bit.

My car: new (as of march) my03 wrx sti uk

Thanks

~Jules

Sounds like an air bubble in the heater matrix.. behind the dash hence why would sound like from the gearbox area..

Check your water level.. might be low on coolant and heater matrix is the highest point so you lose water from there first.

It may be the heater system you can hear, as quite a few of them produce such wierd noises from either the heater radiator or the air con exchanger.

Hi,

I checked all the levels and they're fine. I had a passenger in the car yesterday when it happened, and they thought the noise was coming from behind the passenger air bag area.

Any ideas?

~Jules
