Gear Lever Spring!
Hi
I have a MY96 WRX and the spring has gone from the left side of the gear lever, it just 'flops' over to the left now, it does seem to cause any problems apart from it can be difficult to find 3rd when driving hard because the spring isn't there to put the lever back to the middle.
Has anyone got any ideas of how this is fixed and the cost involved.
Thanks

mine is gone from my newly installed gearbox.
If you want to take your car to rally colin,(colin minton) in reading, he has ordered in several of the springs in readiness to do my car.
Can't imagine it will be a lot of money but am sure he could be persuaded to do yours too.
email me if you want his phone number.

Cost minimal but you will need to get under the car (depends on model year/gearbox).
I used a spring from those you find with rear brake shoe kits but best to nip underneath the car and measure the distance between mounting points. From memory it's about 3/4" to 1" long. Doesn't need to have a strong tension to allow self centering to 3rd/4th.
Ver 5 UK boxes don't have an external spring for the gear linkage BTW.

Can't say for certain if the lever return on your year of box has an external spring or not, but if it has then yes it is visible when you look under the car but it is in the tunnel area, so you have to look up into the tunnel where the gear linkage is.
