Question

MY97 UK, just fallied MOT due to a leaking gasket. I thought there was only one gasket on the downpipe, is it possible this one is leaking or are more? Or could it be bull sh*t.

Cheers,

Leigh

There are quite a few gaskets in the entire exhaust system, however, most of them are covered by heatshields. The only ones which are visible are between the downpipe and center (o-ring) and center to backbox (steel), it's most likely this last one as it is really obvious when this one fails and they do deteriorate. Mine fell apart completely the last time I swapped the OEM center back for the MOT, cleaned it up and used a bit of exhuast paste and it was fine. Replaced the gasked when I put the straight thru center back in.

There is also normally a gasket between the centre section and the backbox. Any exhaust place (or even Halfords) should have one that fits if it is this thats blowing.
