Question

OK I think I might need a new clutch as it seems to be slipping in 3rd under WOT, if I fit a new flywheel (from Lateral Performance) I can use any clutch. So who is running 280ft/lb of torque and which clutch are you using. I could go for a Lateral Performance one, but would this be overkill since I don't push the car that hard, no standing starts and don't do any track days.

Oh and I want one that is easy in traffic, not a paddle one.

Your thoughts please.

DaveW.

i have used a blueprint one for a year now and it has been ok at 280ft/lbs and 306bhp

i have recently raised the power and torque considerably and its still holding out!

for how much longer i don't know

think the blueprint one is around £150 retail

Dave,

The std STi one should be fine for that sort of power, if you're not trying doing standing starts and full power gear changes then I wouldn't bother with an "uprated" clutch.

How many people have broken gearboxes soon after fitting uprated clutches?

Cheers guys,

When I had my MY99 the clutch lasted well over 40k so I'm not that hard on clutches. And I'm a bit reluctant to spend over £450 on a Lateral Performance one rated at over 400ft/lb for a car only running 280ft/lb. Especially since I've got no real plans to upgrade the power.

Anybody know where I can get an original STI clutch from at a reasonable cost?

An original Subaru 99- centre plate is approx £80 from a main dealer and is identical (as far as I can tell) to an Sti item
I run with my original cover and this plate on 380lb-ft torque with no issues
