Lots more popping since fitting Blitz BOV?
#1
I'm no expert (which is evidentally obvious), but since swapping my standard recirc with the Blitz Blow Off Valve i've been getting A LOT more popping. I'm guessing that this is because loads of fuel is being dumped in as its "expecting" fuel on the recirc pipe but isnt getting any? will this sort itself out or will it be popping from now on?
Am I doing any damage allowing it to pop so much, its quite a loud bang! Also is it likely to produce any flames, cos I wasnt intending on having those until my remap!
ecutek shelf map (tek2), decat, blitz BOV

Because that air is now "missing", the mixture ends up far too rich, and the unburnt fuel gets shot out into the exhaust system where the heat ignites it.

oops, when I meant dumped fuel i meant dumped fuel into the engine and when I meant fuel on the recirc pipe i meant air!!! it was late its obvious that fuel in the induction system is silly!
hehe, will it damage the car/exhaust leaving it like this?
Blitz does sound nice tho!
Edited to say, no wonder nobody replied!

Hello geasemonkey. On your last post you didn't really clarify that it would do any damage left in the state of popping and banging.
My scoob started doing this when i fitted a vta d valve but since putting a de cat on it is more frequent and louder.
My real concern is, is serious damage around the corner?
Surely slightly more fuel is better than slightly less?
Thanks Jamie

I've also noticed that its a bit jumpy/hold backy after this happens, will this be solved on remap or is this just one of the bad points of not recirculating?

The fact that it is running ultra-rich between gear changes means you may be diluting the oil and causing bore wash. How much of a problem this is I don't know but I personally wouldn't leave my car like that. Having said that, you could just change the oil a lot more regularly to combat that problem.

it gets changed every 4'000 so hopefully ok. i've also had it pop not just on gear changes but on run down in 2nd and 3rd doing about 30-40 mph. Car runs sweet as. Any suggestions?

I don't think a remap of the standard ECU will be able to work round the fact that you are loosing metered air from the system (but any Ecutek guys want to correct me?). I think they only way to solve this problem with a remap is to use an ECU that uses MAP instead of MAF (like a GEMS or a LINK). I really don't see the point, as the standard BOV works fine for most applications IMHO.
I'd also change the oil more frequently than 4000 miles if I had a VTA BOV on my car....
