Question

I've recently started getting a strange noise from the transmission (clutch, diff, drive shaft/s ??) on my STi7 (15k miles) during engine braking when changing down.

It's a sort of loud whine which is only present while the car is slowing down and the clutch is out (or being let out). If I brake without engine braking i.e clutch in, there's no sound so I'm assuming its a transmission thing.

Has anybody else had similar experiences or have any idea what it might be before I submit myself to the clutches of my local Subaru dealer ?

Cheers, Ian.

Seems a bit early for a bearing to go. Could it just be low on gearbox oil ? Anyone know where the gearbox dipstick is on an STi7 ?

Sorry for all the daft questions but I'm not as technically savvy as you guys.

Cheers, Ian.
