Hi there, i've had to remove the chip from my96 sti v2 as it was making the car dett and run lean. The chip is a zero sports chip which came with the car when it was imported. Can this chip be remapped ? is it worth doing or should i get a scoobyecu chip instead? Any info would be great.

cheers johnny.

I too had a Zero Sports chip in my ECU, three weeks after I had the car had a piston go. Now have a ScoobyECU, can't comment on difference as still not got car back on the road but reading all the comments it's well worth the money.

Dunno if the chip is re-programmable, think mine was running horrendously high boost...my advice, get rid, get another one unless you know what it's mapped to.

What fuel were you running the car on prior to it going pear-shaped?

Cheers for the info, after much thought (about 10 secs) i've decided to get a scoobyecu chip when funds allow ( prob work out a lot cheaper aswell)

John,

Have you sent the chip down to me yet...if so I'll read it monday and let you know the result (Oh! and then send it back).

Probably too much ignition advance.

As an example...in the early days I mapped my UK to 15.9psi running Z4 ECU Ignition (normally for 12.7psi). On the RR is was detting.

A PROVA map that I managed to read out of a Z4 WRX was running 16.6psi and 5 Degree's more advance than the base Z4 Map and with the same fuel map.....If that's not gonna DET on UK fuel I don't know what is.....

surely the chip must be remappable otherwise why would it have been changed from the std chip in the first place.

Was running on Optimax, although out in the wilds of Northumbria one day, had to put in a few litres of NUL to prevent me from pushing car back to Scotland.

Scott, haven't sent chip yet, had a funeral to go to over the weekend....will send chip down next week sometime.

Hmmm, horse has definitely bolted now, but should really have been running octane booster and a KnockLink on that combination. The Zero chip's map will no doubt have been reliant (and may have been safe) on Japanese fuel. Optimax alone just isn't enough in these circumstances, let alone 95 RON...

Gedi,

The chip will be remap-able, but it's just as easy to blow another one.

Is it soldered or socketed into the board ??

Greasemonkey,

Yes now I know I should have been using octane booster and had a Knocklink, but I've learnt an expensive lesson...car back this week..at last.
