Had mine rebuild 2yrs back with Wiseco 4thou forgies, cams ,solid lifters, rods, etc etc.
OE ECU and Unichip would not run the show.Once we put M48pro(motec) it fired up no probs.Idle is around 950rpm.
Yes it is noisy and more when cold and this is the list of my worries.I guess it is a small price to pay for more hp.
With the engine I did turbo, injectors, fuel pump,M48 etc at the same time.Have done 40000kms so far at max boost and never had an issue.
Friend of mine had engine etc done and needs to keep accelarator pushed to start first .
I normally turn ignition first, then when fuel pump stops will press accelarator once(to get some fuel) and then start.
Cheers
Chris
Dont know if helps?

The dealer won't be able to tell, most likely - I think they are able to read the output from the lambda (so can tell if it's "going off") but a MAF on the way out they can't see. Which is a little worrying. However... all you need to do is get the engine warm & leave it at idle, then disconnect the MAF sensor. If the idle suddenly sorts itself out, it was the MAF causing the problem. The same test can be done on the lamda, I believe, but it's so commonly the MAF (especially after it's been moved/knocked about) that I'd check here first.
(In case you're not sure where it is, the MAF sensor is within the plastic cylinder in the air intake, between where the intake exits under the manifold & disappears into the wing. The sensor connector will be sticking out - just <carefully> unplug the thing & see what happens )

Hi Trev,
I was on the phone to Mark @ Lateral performance and he said to get in touch with John Pie and referred me to this post. I think he thought he was up here in Scotland but I guess with the phone number he's in Tyneside. Looks like I've lost a piston and need to strip engine to find out if its salvageable. Thanks anyway.
